Unigames April 2025 Newsletter

Study break is officially over and we are in the tail end of semester now! We hope everyone's enjoyed their short break because the last four weeks are likely to be packed full of assessments. However, if you have spare time, you should use it to stop by Unigames for some of our upcoming events!

We also have a lot of good things aside from events coming up, like our Semester 1 Book Buy and a new Unigames shirt order! Keep reading to find out more.

We hope to see you around soon, hopefully in some new sage green apparel!

Upcoming at Unigames

Spire One-shot Night - Week 9, Friday 2nd of May @ 6pm

Later this week we will be running one of our bi-weekly one-shot nights, this one being Spire One-shot Night! In Spire you play as dark elves in a secret war against high elves, the guys who rule the city of Spire. It's a D10 system full of intrigue and interesting classes, so if you enjoy fantasy and political revolution, this would be a good event for you to attend!

SNAGS Collaboration - Week 10, Wednesday 7th of May @ 5pm

Next week we are running our bi-weekly boardgame night in collaboration with SNAGS, or the Students of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. To fit the theming we will be bringing along a bunch of our environmental boardgames like Wingspan, Photosynthesis, Terraforming Mars, Agricola, and more! This event will take place in the SNAGS clubroom (Agri G.018, opposite Barry J Marshall Library). An interest in agriculture or biology is not required to attend (but certainly welcomed)!

Charity Vigil - Week 10, Friday-Saturday the 9th-10th of May

Coming along a little later in the year than usual, we finally have Charity Vigil in a little under two weeks! This is an overnight collaborative event we are running with our friends UniSFA, UCC, UWAeSports, and UWASCA, where we raise money for charity. This year's charity is Circle Green, an independent, not-for-profit community legal centre that provides state-wide specialist legal services.

On the night we will be running a lot of different activities for the purpose of raising money, including but not limited to pay-to-win boardgames and RPGs, VR games, a book binding workshop, karaoke, Taskmaster, The Chase, as well as our traditional midnight raffle and auction. There will also be a pizza order!

Entry is 5 dollars (which includes a raffle ticket), and we encourage you to bring small notes and change for spending during the event. Charity Vigil is also drop-in drop-out, so you can attend for as much or as little as you'd like. For more information please see our socials (as well as the socials of the other participating clubs), there will be more announcements in the coming weeks! For more information about the charity choice Circle Green, please go here!

OSR One-shot Night - Week 11, 14th of May @ 4pm

In a couple of weeks we will be running OSR One-shot Night, where OSR stands for old school revival. Old school revival games bring back the good ol' days of RPGs when they started in the 1970s, emulating the likes of early Dungeons and Dragons. Some of the systems we'll be running on the night are Cy:Borg, Mork Borg and Old School Essentials. Come along for a night of reminiscing about how good games USED to be!

Shirt Pre-Order

It's been a couple years since our last Unigames shirt run, and so we figured it was about time to organise another one. In previous years we organised a special order colour edition, and this year is no different with a lovely sage green. Like our regular black shirts these ones will have the Unigames logo on the front and the club name on the back, so everyone knows exactly where your allegiance lies.

Standard sizes are available between XS and 3XL, if you need something smaller or larger please contact our lovely treasurer Anna for help! These sizes are all available in fem or masc cuts as well. Shirts are 22 dollars each, with payment to be taken on collection of the shirts.

The sage green shirts are only available during the pre-order period, which will go until the 18th of May. You can find a link to the pre-order form here. If you have any questions please contact a committee member and we can help you out.

Semester 1 Book Buy

The time has come for our first book buy of the year! For those who are unfamiliar we do two book buys a year where people are encouraged to put in suggestions for new Unigames library items. This can be an RPG system book, a boardgame, card game, wargaming materials, anything our library doesn't have that you think it's lacking. We take submissions in the relevant channel in our discord server and on a Facebook post which you can find here!

Submissions are being taken until the 16th of May, but if you don't have anything to add for this semester, you can always submit things for next semesters book buy!

Previous Events

You might be wondering what Unigames has been up to this last little while, so here's a quick summary of what's happened since the start of April!

Club Carnival - Week 6, Tuesday 1st of April @ 12-2pm

Club Carnival was a little quieter than previous years this time around, likely due to some funny weather on the day, but we got some new sign-ups regardless! This signaled the end of most of our Fresher accumulation for semester one, rounding out a very successful semester for gaining new members. We're glad to have all of you!

April Ordinary General Meeting - Week 6, Friday 4th of April @ 2pm

Our OGM went off without a hitch and we elected our new Ordinary Committee Member, that being Jack Bariss. We hope to see all attendees again next semester for our regularly scheduled semester 2 OGM. The minutes for this meeting have been out for a little while now, if you didn't attend then feel free to read what we talked about here.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm Prerelease - Week 6, Sunday 6th of April @ 11am

This prerelease was one of the busiest we've had in quite a while, with a total attendance of 28 people, almost selling us out of all the prerelease kits we had! This was also the first Magic: the Gathering prerelease that we ran with the help of our sponsor Good Games Morley, which we are greatly appreciative for. We hope to see this high attendance at the next prerelease we run, but if you can't wait to scratch that MtG itch, make sure to come along to our weekly SNoMs!

Warhammer Tournaments

Throughout April we ran two Warhammer tournaments, a 1k tournament on April 5th, and a 2k tournament on April 12th. We hope everyone had a good time and we look forward to running more Warhammer tournaments in the future, likely during the Winter break or early in semester two. Keep an eye on the minutes and announcements on social media for more information!

Blood on the Clocktower Event - Week 7, Sunday 13th of April @ 1pm

Blood on the Clocktower events are always some of our most popular, and this one was no exception! We managed to organise one full game of Trouble Brewing. We've already heard lots of requests for another event, and we hope to organise one soon, likely in the Winter break!

RPGs and Boardgames

Unigames has held a number of RPG and boardgame events over the last month. Here’s a list of all of the weekly events we've run since the last newsletter:

  • RPGs
    • One Page RPG One-shot Night
    • D20 One-shot Night
  • Boardgames
    • Collaborative Boardgames
    • Employed Boardgames

If you have any suggestions for TTRPG systems we can run or themed boardgame nights we can hold, let us know! You can message any of our committee members, or chuck a message in our Discord #feedback channel. We also have a general event interest form that you can put event ideas into.

Also, if YOU are an experienced Game Master and want to help us run some of our one-shot nights, let us know! We have a Facebook poll where you can tell us what systems you are familiar with and are willing to help run. Links to all these things here:
