Unigames February Newsletter 2025
Unigames February 2025
Hello everyone, and welcome to the beginning of semester one! Campus is busy and so is Unigames with an influx of new students and therefore new Unigames members. This newsletter especially goes out to all our Freshers who signed up on O-Day or have come into the clubroom to sign up since! Pay attention to our upcoming events like our Fresher Welcome and our Annual General Meeting.
If you're new to Unigames and are already interested in the club, think you would be good at supporting other Freshers, and enjoy playing boardgames, RPGs or TCGs, you might be a good Fresher Representative! This is a Fresher exclusive position on committee for the purpose of supporting our new members and making the club feel like a welcoming space. If you think you would be suitable take a look under the AGM header for nomination and event details!
These newsletters are released monthly, so make sure to look out at the end of each month to see what Unigames has been up to and what we have coming next!
Upcoming at Unigames
Fresher Welcome - Week 1, Thursday 27/02 @ 4pm
After O-Day we always run a Fresher Welcome to introduce our new members to the clubroom and some of the games we love to play, but this is hardly a fresher-only event! If you are a non-fresh member we would love to see you there to help make the night even more fun.
We will be playing all of our favourite and most popular boardgames so come along for a fun time for the beginning of semester! Pizza will also be available on the night at the cost of a gold coin for new members and $5 for our returning members.
AGM - Week 1, Friday 28/02 @ 1pm
Democracy manifests yet again as we hold our Annual General Meeting. At the meeting we will be nominating our 2025 committee, and nominations are already open.
If you have someone you would like to nominate for a committee position please find the nominations post on our Facebook page under the event Unigames AGM or follow the link here (https://fb.me/e/2GC7fb3ng). If you are opposed to Facebook then please message any current committee member to make your nomination, and you can track our currently accepted nominations in our Discord server under current-events and Unigames AGM 2025!
Additionally if you have any motions or proposed constitutional changes, they can be submitted by any two Ordinary Financial Members to uwaunigames@gmail.com. Constitutional amendments must be submitted no less than four days before the AGM, and motions no less than seven days.
We encourage you to come along, but if you can't for whatever reason, please consider making an absentee vote! Please contact either Nene Mars or Connor Brennan via email, Discord, or Facebook at least 1 hour before the event starts. Only Ordinary Financial Members are permitted to vote, that being that you have a current, paid membership with Unigames as a UWA student.
RPG O'Day - Week 2, Tuesday 04/03 @ 2pm
RPG O'Day is running again this year after being a very successful event in 2024! RPG O'Day is a day where you can go up to the Cameron Hall Loft and find out about RPG systems from system experts. It's a good way to diversify your taste in RPGs as there are many out there just waiting to be played.
Come along to potentially discover your new favourite system or find people who might be interested in playing an already loved system with you!
Variety One-shot Night - Week 2, Thursday 06/03 @ 4pm
Variety One-shot Night follows close behind RPG O'Day because some of the systems featured there will also appear as one-shots on this night! We will have plenty of GMs, all of different systems, to give you a taste of all of what RPGs have to offer.
If you find a system you're interested in on RPG O'Day there's a good chance you'll be able to try it out on Variety One-shot Night, but it's also a good night to try something new and come into it blind. Spots are first come, first serve with no reservations. No matter what table you end up at you're bound to have a good time!
TCG O'Day - Week 3, Wednesday 12/03 @ 1pm
For the first time we'll be running a TCG O'Day, similar to RPG O'Day, except this time it's about TCGs! You can learn about TCGs you may have never heard of like Flesh and Blood or Netrunner, or perhaps learn more about TCGs you may have heard about like Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh!
If you have a TCG you'd be interested in teaching others about, there is currently an expression of interest form up that you can fill in to do just that. Please follow the link here (https://forms.gle/iUUTn18xYnpLRP1W7) and fill it out with what TCG you'd like to talk about if you are interested.
Intro to Magic: The Gathering - Week 3, Thursday 13/03 @ 1pm
The day after TCG O'Day we are running Intro to Magic: The Gathering. MtG is our most popular TCG in Unigames and we run lots of events for it, from pre-releases to SNoMs, so it's very worthwhile to get into. If you're interested in learning how to play make sure to come along to this intro so you can learn what you need to and start playing with our experienced memberbase!
Quick 'n Easy Boardgames Week 3, Friday 14/03 @ 4pm
Our first weekly event of the new semester will be Quick 'n Easy Boardgames! We will be playing some of our famously speedy games like Love Letter, Magic Maze, and Coup. Come along to play something fun and fast!
March Warhamer 40,000 Tournament - Week 3, Saturday 15/03 @ 8 am
On Saturday the 15th of March we are hoping to be running our second Warhammer tournament of the year. At the moment we are still figuring out the details but if you're interested in attending please hold this date and watch our minutes and social media to get any updates!
Intro to Wargaming - Week 4, Tuesday 18/03 @ 5pm
Our final intro event for the semester will be Intro to Wargaming. Come along to learn about our most popular wargames like Warhammer: 40,000 (Kill Team), Blood Bowl and Gaslands, as well as play some of our most wargame-y boardgames, like Root!
We have a very popular Blood Bowl league and run Warhammer tournaments frequently, so if you're interested in either it would be a great idea to come learn about them at this intro.
Previous Events
You might be wondering what Unigames has been up to this last little while, so here's a quick summary of what's happened since the start of February!
Precon League - Weekly on Mondays,
Our Precon recently ended after four weekly sessions, with prizes being given out to everyone with those who accrued the most points getting to pick first. Our Precon winners this time around were Ella, Xane and David, congratulations!
We're hoping to run another Precon league soon so if you're interested make sure to keep up with our minutes, newsletters and social medias so you can find out about it. A feedback form will also be coming out soon for those who did or did not attend and want to give feedback.
Aetherdrift Prerelease - Sunday 16/02 @ 11am
The Aetherdrift Prerelease went well, with 8 attendants. The attendants received 6 booster packs to make a deck out of and played three rounds against each other. The winner of this prerelease was David, who won all three of the rounds he played. Congratulations David!
O-Day - Friday 21/02 @ 11am - 3pm
Last Friday Unigames went to O-Day, and despite the wind and slight rain, everyone had a very good time and we got a bunch of new member sign-ups. In total we accrued 214 sign-ups on the day with many more to come! We hope if you're one of the new sign-ups that you consider coming to some of our upcoming events (listed above) and get involved. Regardless, we're happy to have you on board!
Thank you also to everyone who helped us sign up new members and tell people about the club as well, it is a group effort that makes days like this so successful and so rewarding!
RPGs and Boardgames
Unigames have held a number of RPG and boardgame events over the last month. Here’s a list of all of the almost-weekly events we have run since the last newsletter:

If you have any suggestions for TTRPG systems we can run, or themed boardgame nights we can hold, let us know! You can message any of our committee members, or chuck a message in our Discord #feedback channel (link below).
Also, if YOU are an experienced Game Master and want to help us run some of our One-shot Nights, let us know! We have a Facebook poll where you can tell us what systems you are familiar with and are willing to help run (link also below).
