Unigames January 2025

Hello everyone! One month into the new year and Unigames has been hard at work preparing for an influx of new members, and running events for current ones! We hope to see you around soon, below are some events you can come to if you're looking to scratch that traditional tabletop gaming itch!

These newsletters are released monthly, so make sure to look out at the end of each month to see what Unigames has been up to and what we have coming next!

Upcoming at Unigames

Lovey-Dovey Boardgames - Friday 14/02 @ 4pm

We're all here because we love boardgames, so what better a celebration of Valentine's Day than spending an afternoon playing them? We aren't keeping ourselves held to games specifically about love because all boardgames are about love when you love boardgames.

Aetherdrift Prerelease - Sunday 16/02 @ 11am

We messed up the date a little bit so the Aetherdrift Prerelease has morphed into an Aetherdrift Release, but you should still come along!

For $55 on entry you will receive a prerelease kit of 6 play boosters, a foil rare or mythic rare, and a spindown d20. Compared to our recent prereleases, prizing will be alotted at 4 boosters per person! Join us on Sunday to do some drafting and play a couple of games!

O-Day - Friday 21/02 @ 11am - 3pm

Once again Unigames is participating in UWA's O-Day! Come find us at the Unigames booth to sign up for membership for the year and receive a sticker you can show to our sponsors Tactics and Good Games Morley for 10% off your purchases!

Once we know where we will be located we will post maps on our socials so you can come visit us on the day. Make sure to visit our frequent collaborators (who you can find under Collaborative Events) to sign up with them as well!

Fresher Welcome - Thursday 27/02 @ 4pm

After O-Day we always run a Fresher Welcome to introduce our new members to the clubroom and some of the games we love to play, but this is hardly a fresher-only event! If you are a non-fresh member we would love to see you there to help make the night even more fun.

We will be playing all of our favourite and most popular boardgames so come along for a fun time for the beginning of semester! Pizza will also be available on the night at the cost of a gold coin for new members and $5 for our returning members.

AGM - Friday 28/02 @ 1pm

Democracy manifests yet again as we hold our Annual General Meeting. At the meeting we will be nominating our 2025 committee, and nominations are already open.

If you have someone you would like to nominate for a committee position please find the nominations post on our Facebook page under the event Unigames AGM or follow the link here (https://fb.me/e/2GC7fb3ng). If you are opposed to Facebook then please message any current committee member to make your nomination, and you can track our currently accepted nominations in our Discord server under current-events and Unigames AGM 2025!

Additionally if you have any motions or proposed constitutional changes, they can be submitted by any two Ordinary Financial Members to uwaunigames@gmail.com. Constitutional amendments must be submitted no less than four days before the AGM, and motions no less than seven days.

We encourage you to come along, but if you can't for whatever reason, please consider making an absentee vote! Please contact either Nene Mars or Connor Brennan via email, Discord, or Facebook at least 1 hour before the event starts. Only Ordinary Financial Members are permitted to vote, that being that you have a current, paid membership with Unigames as a UWA student

Previous Events

You might be wondering what Unigames has been up to this last little while, so here's a quick summary of what's happened since the start of January!

Warhammer Tournament - Saturday 18/01

We had another Warhammer tournament in mid-January! Players participated in a series of 2000 point Warhammer 40K matches in UWA's E-Zone. Out of 12 attendees we had one winner (as competitions are known to have), which was Lilith!

Foundations Jumpstart - Thursday 23/01

Our last prerelease before the upcoming Aetherdrift event. It was a good introductory event for those that were new to Magic: The Gathering, very worthwhile considering MtG's popularity in the club!

Kitbashing Day - Saturday 25/01

Another wargaming event, this one was an opportunity for our wargamers to finally get around to fixing up their figures. Participants brought in their parts from home and spent the afternoon in our clubroom making new figures to use in games like Blood Bowl and Warhammer, our current wargaming staples.

Precon League - Weekly on Mondays

The Unigames Precon League started up on the 27th of January! Precon League involves participants beginning with an unedited preconstructed Commander deck, upgrading it each week within a set budget, and then playing games with other Precon Leaguers to compete for points and potential prizes.

The final session of our Precon League is happening next Monday on 17/02, where players will be getting prizes based on the amount of points they gained over the League!

Uncharity Vigil - 1st and 2nd of February

At the beginning of February we had our yearly Uncharity Vigil, an event where instead of running games overnight for charity, we run games overnight for Uncharity, that being for Unigames!

This year we raised $1,140.80 which is going straight back to the club in the form of things like chair cushions, new whiteboard markers, new battle maps, and more! Unigames also turned into a meritocracy for the evening in the form of our yearly dragon vote. There were many good contenders but the winner was the lemon dragon, who you will now be able to see on our website in place of the 2024 dragonfruit dragon! She is being lovingly referred to as Lemmy.

RPGs and Boardgames

Unigames have held a number of RPG and boardgame events over the last month. Here’s a list of all of the almost-weekly events we have run since the last newsletter:
