Unigames June 2025 Newsletter

Hello again! The start of semester 2 is just a couple of weeks away and we at Unigames are preparing for this by organising a whole lot of events. Things were a little slow throughout June as we prepared for (and recovered from) our annual Unigames camp, but we're very excited to be back and get back into the swing of our weekly events.

No matter what you're interested in we have an event for you coming up soon, whether you want to have a chill afternoon of playing Magic at SNoM, want to prepare for our Blood Bowl Tournament by attending our Mini Painting Day, or just want some weekly boardgaming and RPGing fun.

We hope to see you around at some of our upcoming events and hope you rest easy for the last bit of your Winter break!

Upcoming at Unigames

Book Buy Boardgames - Wednesday the 2nd of July @ 1pm

Unigames finished our semester 1 book buy in late May, and now that we have a few of the new games in our library, we're ready to host an event playing the them! If you attend the event you can look forward to playing some of our new boardgames like ARCs, Curses and Covens, Dune: Imperium - Uprising, and Fuego! We'll also be supplementing these games with some of our 2024 semester 2 book buy games like Ra, Zoo Vadis, and more.

Sunday Night of Magic (SNoM) - Sunday the 6th of July @ 11am

Although SNoM is technically every Sunday, we're running a scheduled and advertised one this weekend! Despite being titled Sunday Night of Magic, SNoMs start in the morning and go through the afternoon, often ending in the evening. If you have a new deck you want to try out (or maybe want to test one of the Unigames club decks) or just need to scratch that commander itch, you should come along!

Mini Painting Day - Monday the 7th of July @ 10am

We ran a Mini Painting Day earlier this month on the 10th of June, and it was such a success that we quickly looked at organising another one. If you have lots of unpainted minis this is an excellent event to get them all finished at, especially in anticipation of our Blood Bowl Tournament and upcoming semester 2 Blood Bowl League. We also have our new club paints for you to test out!

A new fixture of the event is awesome tunes, so if you have any tunes you want to hear while painting, please follow this link to submit them to the Painting Day playlist!

Good VS. Evil RPG Night - Saturday the 12th of July @ 5pm

Following our club busy bee will be Good VS. Evil RPG Night! You'll be able to enjoy morally unambiguous systems like Powered by the Apocalypse's Masks, an RPG where you play as superheroes. There will be two games running and no reservations required, and you can be as good or bad as you'd like!

Blood Bowl Tournament - Sunday the 13th of July @ 9am

To cap off our finishing Blood Bowl League we are running a Blood Bowl Tournament! This will be an 11s tournament, so 11 players on the field, and it is a non-ticketed event with no entry fee. Because it's free there won't be prizes to win but if you get certain accolades you may be able to get a fun badge, and isn't that better than some kind of medal? Make sure to mark the date so you can remember you have skulls to roll on the 13th!

Rise Boardgames - O-Week, Wednesday the 16th of July @ 4pm

The successor to Unigames' biggest ever event (Fall Boardgames) is Rise Boardgames, where we rise up from the ashes! Or rise like bread! Or rise from our slumber! Rising is being interpreted in many different ways with boardgames like Sky Team (you rise through the sky in a plane), Flamecraft (you can make bread, and dough rises), and High Society (you rise through the ranks of a social hierarchy)! If you're interested in elevation in its many forms, this is the event for you.

Previous Events

You might be wondering what Unigames has been up to this last little while, so here's a quick summary of what's happened since the start of June!

Final Fantasy Prerelease - Sunday the 8th of June

We ran our Final Fantasy Prerelease at the beginning of June and it was a massive success, with all 20 kits having been sold and played. We're still lucky enough to have some Final Fantasy packs in the clubroom and we are planning on running a draft using them sometime soon, so keep your eyes peeled for an announcement on that soon! Maybe the Final Fantasy is the packs we pull along the way.

Lasers and Lances Camp - Friday the 20th of June to Monday the 23rd of June

Our annual camp finished just over one week ago today, and it went very well! Like our other annual camps we ran our staple events like assassins, quiz night, and debates, with a new addition of a craft night! Of course there was lots of regular gaming had too.

The theme for assassins this camp was 'your weapon name,' which spawned the creation of names like Scanty Bastard, the Gub, Ffoeg, and the IRS. Congratulations are in order to our Bottom Pegger James who was wielding Diamond Sword, and our Top Pegger and Best Assassin David who was wielding the Dive Rocket Launcher.

Quiz night featured rounds on lasers, lances, games, Unigames, and so much more, with questions like 'can you name that song in bardcore?', 'how many table priority guides are hung up in the clubroom?', and 'how many venues in Australia can you play or rent laser tag at?'

Debates also happened for the first time in a couple of camps, with inspiring topics like 'I love mulch', 'traffic lights shouldn't exist', and 'Esports should be nuked with bombs'. We look forward to continue running debates in the future after having been in a drought of it, and we hope we get more outrageous ideas for it.

Whether you did or didn't attend camp we have a feedback form you can fill out here, and if you did attend and have photos you took, we have a google drive folder where you can upload them here.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at camp next year!
