Unigames May 2025 Newsletter

Hello everyone! After a busy month we're finally at the end of semester one. Things are slowing down in the club as they always do once the pressure hits with end of semester assignments and exams, but not to worry, there's still a lot of good things coming your way.

We're taking a tiny break from our weekly events between now and our upcoming Unigames Camp, but keep reading to see what we have on in the meanwhile!

We wish you luck in your upcoming exams if you have them, and like always we hope to see you around soon!

Upcoming at Unigames

Easy Boardgames - Thursday the 5th of June @ 12pm

We know some of you are probably stressed out and looking to wind down at the moment, whether it's because you have exams or because you're already recovering from a busy semester. Well look no further than this event, with simple and fun boardgames for you to chill out with!

The roster includes games like Skull, Bananagrams, Azul, Dungeon Mayhem, and Coup, as well as any other easy boardgames people feel called to at the event. Expect a lowkey event with lots of fun games!

Final Fantasy Prerelease - Sunday the 8th of June @ 11 am

We're running a Magic: The Gathering prerelease for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy set soon! Unfortunately we had a very limited amount of kits available for purchase. Only 20 kits were available for participants, all of which were reserved within a day of being announced.

If you're one of the people who missed out on reserving a kit, don't worry, we're currently getting our hands on some booster packs to sell in the clubroom once the prerelease finishes. We also hope you'll come around to the future SNoMs and prereleases we organise! Happy gaming to everyone who will be able to attend, may the odds be ever in your favour, or something.

Mini Painting Day - Tuesday the 10th of June @ 2pm

We recently got our hands on the paints we bought with the money we raised at our Uncharity Vigil earlier this year, and we're excited to put them to use right away! Come along to our mini painting day with any minis you need to finish, and feel free to bring your own brushes and paints if you have them.

Lasers and Lances Camp - Friday the 20th of June to Monday the 23rd of June

Just a couple of weeks ago we were finally able to announce our annual Unigames Camp, the theme this time being Lasers and Lances!

If you're unfamiliar with our camps you can expect three days of boardgames, TTRPGs, assassins, and more, with scheduled events like a quiz night, craft night, LARP, and debates! Our camps take place at the Manjedal activity centre and run from about ~5pm on Friday the 20th to 10 am on Monday the 23rd.

Tickets are $100 and able to be purchased in the clubroom, they include your accomodation and meals for the weekend. As well, if you purchase a ticket before the 10th of June (just 9 days away now!) you get the early bird special, which includes a $10 snack voucher you can use to purchase snacks throughout the weekend. After the 10th you can still purchase an additional snack voucher, it just won't be included with the $100 ticket.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in contact with a committee member through any of our contact links at the bottom of the newsletter! We hope to see you there.

Phoenix

Some of you might remember that last year we re-launched our Phoenix zine. Last year's theme was 'rebirth,' symbolic of the mythological phoenix and of the literal rebirth of the zine. We're excited to say that we are going to continue with Phoenix this year and will be announcing the opening of submissions soon!

As a sneak peek of this year's theme, please get excited for things in the near past and distant future.

Previous Events

You might be wondering what Unigames has been up to this last little while, so here's a quick summary of what's happened since the start of May!

Charity Vigil

On the 9th and 10th of April we had our annual Charity Vigil with our frequent collaborators UniSFA, UCC, UWAEsports, and UWASCA! The night included lots of fun events including Bananagrams and Ta Yu tournaments, Taskmaster, karaoke, a book binding workshop, and our traditional midnight raffle and auction.

The attendance was staggering, with over 90 attendees coming into the event throughout the night! We are still working out how much we raised for our sponsor Circle Green but make sure you keep an eye on our upcoming minutes for the amount raised!

Semester 1 Book Buy

Just this past week we had our book buy meeting where we decided which suggested games we get for semester one. You can look forward to new additions to our library like ARCs, Curses and Covens, Fuego, Gubs, Ironsworn, and the Lancer TTRPG core rulebook! Look out in the coming days for a full list of the items we will be buying, or you can check the minutes for meeting #13 under 'Sem 1 Book Buy'!

We will have another book buy in semester 2, so if we missed anything this time that you'd like to suggest, make sure you keep it in mind for the end of the year!

Precon League

On the 28th of May we had our final day of Precon League, where a massive amount of prizes were handed out to participants, all thanks to our sponsor Good Games Morley! Massive congratulations to player Elliot for being the overall winner for the league.

There were over 20 people who played in this league and with plenty more interest, we're looking forward to running another MtG league soon enough! If you have any feedback about this past league, whether you participated or not, please submit it here so we know what we did right and what we did wrong.

RPGs and Boardgames

Unigames has held a number of RPG and boardgame events over the last month. Here’s a list of all of the weekly events we've run since the last newsletter:

  • RPGs
    • OSR One-shot Night
    • Spy One-shot Night
  • Boardgames

If you have any suggestions for TTRPG systems we can run or themed boardgame nights we can hold, let us know! You can message any of our committee members, or chuck a message in our Discord #feedback channel. We also have a general event interest form that you can put event ideas into.

Also, if YOU are an experienced game master and want to help us run some of our one-shot nights, let us know! We recently changed from our Facebook poll to a google form you can fill out to tell us what systems you are familiar with and willing to run. Links to all these things here:
