Unigames New Year Newsletter 2025!

Happy new year everybody and welcome to 2025! Turn on your air conditioners and get your gaming gear together as we look at some of the events we ran over the last month and a bit, and have a little look at the upcoming events we have real soon!

These newsletters are releasing MONTHLY (ish), so check your inboxes at the end of each month for an update on where Unigames is at and what’s coming up!

Summer Boardgames - 13/1 @ 12pm

Whether you're going out on adventures everyday or having some well deserved rest at home, I think we can all agree it's freaking hot 🥵! So, what better time to play some of THE hottest games Unigames has to offer!? Next Monday, the 13th at 12pm, we'll be playing some of our best summer themed boardgames, games like Flamecraft, Dune, Photosynthesis and many more! Prelude to War 2025: a Unigames Warhammer 40k Tournament - 18/1 @ 8am

On January 18, 2025, we will be running another 2000 Points Tournament! It will run from 8am to 6.30pm in Guimelli Learning Studio 1 & 2, so make sure to be there bright and early! There won't be a painting requirement, so feel free to bring your experimental lists to this 3 game tournament! Magic The Gathering: Foundations Jumpstart Event

Unigames will be doing a Foundations Jumpstart event Thursday 23rd of January at 5:30pm in the clubroom! This is a great introductory event for those looking to get into Magic: The Gathering! Entrants will be given 4 packs of Foundations Jumpstart, which can be shuffled to create two 40 card ready to play decks (2 packs per deck). Participants will then play against each other with their jumpstart decks 🙂. Entry will be $25 to cover the cost of the jumpstart packs, which you guys get to keep after the end of the event. Magic The Gathering: Precon League 2025 - Starting 30/1 @ 6pm

What is a precon league?

Precon league is an event where participants begin with an unedited preconstructed commander deck, upgrading it each week within a set budget, before playing games with other precon leaguers each Thursday night over the month of precon league to compete for points and potential prizes.

In line with the intended informational side of precon league, resident Magician Ethan Gibson will be presenting a couple of quick and helpful talks on building and playing your decks.

Entry will be $10, with prizing being done at the end of the event (Thursday 20th of February). The budget for each weekly upgrade will be $15, with the first week being the decks straight out of the box. With each round taking place in the clubroom each Thursday at 6pm starting Thursday 30th of January. Additional information can be found in the thread, otherwise feel more than free to contact myself if you have any questions, or leave a question in the Q&A post.

When is precon league?

Precon league will starting Thursday 30th Of January and running every Thursday after it, with the final week of precon league being Thursday 20th of February.

Where can I find out more information about precon league?

Once this announcement is posted, a new forum called ⁠precon-league-2025 will appear. This is where you can ask questions, submit decklists, as well as help your fellow precon leaguers with their decks.

Uncharity Vigil 2025

Unigames in collaboration with UCC, Unisfa, UWASCA and UWAEsports is happy to bring unCharity Vigil 2025; an overnight event running from 5pm Saturday the 1st of February till 10am Sunday the 2nd of February.

For those familiar with our annual charity vigil events where you spend money for pay to win boardgames and RPGs, unCharity will follow a similar format but with proceeds supporting the clubs you know and love!

Entry for the event will be $5 and includes 1 FREE raffle ticket (You can leave and re-enter the event as many times as you like afterwards if you want to go out for food or home to sleep). The raffle will be taking place at midnight, with loads of prizes from all the different clubs. If you want to hang around but are worried about having to leave for food we will also be doing a group Domino’s order which will be placed and picked up by our event organisers for easy dinner, and early birds will have access to a small array of breakfast items.

Additionally Unigames will become a plutocracy for one night only while we choose our dragon for the new year from this event. For every $1 spent in Unigames you will receive one vote for a dragon design of your choice! Look for ⁠dragon-designs-25 channel in our discord, as well as schedules for the event from the various clubs. We hope to see you there for our first major event of 2025!

Phoenix

Some of our committee members have been working real hard on our zine known as Phoenix, alonside all those who submitted something to be included, and it is Finally Here!!! RPGs and Boardgames

Unigames have held a number of RPG and Boardgame events over the last while. Here’s the list of all of the regular RPG and Boardgame events we have run since the last newsletter:
