At its heart, Dream of the Djinn revolves around the death of a god. For thousands of years, the trickster goddess Amaya built up her divine powers by capturing djinn in bottles and storing them in her shrine, a small series of caves stolen from a minor fertility goddess at the foot of Mount Teelabad. This turned out not to be a very effective form of sustaining power, however. Over time, her powers began to wane.
